A Clara Zetkin Medal was instituted in the German Democratic Republic. Upon the burning of the Reichstag and the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany, Zetkin goes into exhile for a final time in the Soviet Union. Clara Zetkin föddes den 5 juli 1857 söder om Leipzig i Tyskland. Hon växte upp i en arbetsfamilj med mycket jobb och slit. På 1870 talet valde hennes familj att flytta till Leipzig, staden erbjöd barnen en bättre utbildning och en ljusare framtid. Efter att ha gått ut gymnasiet valde Clara att utbilda sig av kvinnoaktivisten Auguste Schmidt.
